one-of-a-kind // shop update

I’ve added a few more, one-of-a-kind bolster cushions to my webshop. These designs have been made using naturally-dyed cotton + hand printed with a few of my old printing blocks. The ‘Agapanthus’ design is one I carved a long time ago which was made as my logo + features on my business artwork. Its simplistic, bold print works well on the coloured cotton. I’m really enjoying more plant-dyeing again this year, adding iron water to the mix. Iron is marvellous for changing not only the colour completely in some cases but it can intensify the colour results as well. The green coloured cotton was made with green carrot tops which can appear pale once the cotton has dried but by soaking the fabric in iron afterwards, it turned the green darker + more khaki in colour. So this year I plan to keep topping up the water levels on my jar collection of rusty nails + experiment more with iron to explore what other colours can be achieved by adding it after the dye baths.

Another wonderful plant-dye which changes colour by adding iron is Eucalyptus bark. It goes from light coral to shades of grey. Luckily there is a super Eucalyptus tree in the garden which sheds its bark twice a year. The kids + I go round + collect up all the pieces of bark from the lawn + store it away. So there’s always plenty to be naturally dyeing with. There are lots of unique cushions + lampshades in various colours available from my shop with free p+p. Thank you for reading!
